Strip Blackjack Explained

Commonly referred to as Vegas Strip Blackjack, Strip Blackjack is a form of the popular casino game with origins in Las Vegas. It’s usually played with just 4 decks, which sets it apart from most other online blackjack games. Overall, though, a lot of rules that originate in Strip Blackjack have since been adopted as the standard for blackjack.

Today, we’re going to dive into the specifics of this ruleset. We’re also going to find some of the top Strip Blackjack games out there the best casinos to play them.

How to Play Strip Blackjack

Generally speaking, a good chunk of Vegas Strip Blackjack rules are the same as any other form of casino blackjack. We looked at these rules in the past, but we’re going to shine a spotlight on the differences and specifics.

Now, a quick disclaimer because we’re positive there’s going to be confusion. Despite what the name might imply, the Strip Blackjack game features no actual stripping. People certainly play blackjack in lieu of the ever-popular strip poker, but that’s hardly a proper casino game. Needless to say, it’s also not what we’ll be talking about today.

The most recognizable part of Vegas Strip Blackjack is the number of decks used – 4. Compared to most other online blackjack games which use 6 or 8, this is fairly good. This is especially good for card counting – the fewer decks used, the easier it is to keep track of cards.

Vegas Strip Blackjack boasts several other fairly player-friendly rules. The fact that the dealer stands on a soft 17 is good, but also fairly common. More importantly, you can double down on any initial hand and/or after splitting. This gives you a better range of options than in most other cases.

Furthermore, you can also split your hand on any same-value card, even if they’re not the same. For example, a King and a Queen are both worth 10, and Strip Blackjack rules allow you to split them.

However, you should be on the lookout for Strip Blackjack online games which pay out 6:5 on blackjack. This is a huge drawback and should be avoided at all times.

Strip Blackjack Strategy

It should be clear by now that there are very few differences between this variant and the classic game of Twenty-one. As such, most of the strategies involved are quite similar. You can find a lot of information on the blackjack strategy section of BlackjackGala.

That said, keep in mind that games which follow this ruleset can be hard to find. The rules are so ubiquitous at this point that online blackjack games rarely clearly state that they’re Strip Blackjack. Conversely, some games use the name yet don’t follow the ruleset. However, 4 decks and allowing you to double down on every initial hand should be a dead giveaway.

Also, we’ll mention again that this variant is very favourable for card counting. However, the standard blackjack chart is not as reliable, unfortunately. Most such charts don’t take into account the special rules for splitting and doubling.

Where to Play

Finally, we’ll round this article out with some suggestions for the best Strip Blackjack online.

Microgaming’s Vegas Strip Blackjack and Vegas Strip Blackjack Gold are the first to come to mind. Both follow the rules to the letter, and both are fine options. You can also play Strip Blackjack for free on these games’ respective pages.

Our other major suggestion is Classic Blackjack by NetEnt. We haven’t gotten around to reviewing it yet, but it’s a solid overall title if you’re not a fan of Microgaming.

Unfortunately, though, we haven’t found a live dealer Strip Blackjack game worth mentioning. Several live casino blackjack games borrow heavily from the Vegas Strip formula. However, none have fully committed to the ruleset. Finding one which uses only 4 decks is downright impossible at this point.
