Casino Blackjack

Land based casinos are some of the most popular places to play the game of Blackjack. The sound of slot machines ringing in the background, excited crowds gathered around the craps tables just a few feet away, and the large selection of game variations and limits all culminate to make playing casino blackjack a thrilling experience.

When you play Blackjack in a real life casino the rules and variations may vary from casino to casino. In Las Vegas, the rules of Las Vegas Strip Blackjack and Vegas Downtown Blackjack are most common; in Atlantic City, most casinos employ Atlantic City Blackjack rules. Many casinos also offer a selection of other Blackjack games including Spanish 21, Blackjack Switch, Double Attack Blackjack and more. Each table should be clearly marked with a sign stating which variation is being played at that table, the rules of the game, and the betting limits.

When playing in a real casino you must wager real money. Therefore, it is important to stick to playing Blackjack variations that you already are familiar with if you want the best chance of winning. You can play free games online to learn new variations before or after you visit a live casino. Always read the rules before you start playing, even if you are familiar with the game, as there are specifics (such as payouts, doubling and splitting rules) that vary from casino to casino. For instance, some variations pay 3:2 when a player wins with “blackjack”, while others play 6:5. 6:5 is the smaller payout and should be avoided if possible. When you have the option, always choose a game that pays 3:2 for blackjack.

It is also important to look for a table with a betting limit that you feel comfortable with. Never bet more than you can afford to lose. Usually land based casinos will have low limit games with $5, $10 and $15 minimum bets in a different area than the high stakes games with minimum bets of $100 or more. Additionally, as the blackjack tables get more crowded some casinos will raise the limits, as they want to make as much money as they can. Therefore, sometimes you may not be able to find a blackjack table with a minimum limit below $15.

While counting cards is not illegal, it is frowned upon in casino blackjack games. It is important to note that a casino reserves the right to ask you to leave if you are suspected of counting cards. Therefore, if you plan to count cards in a real casino, do so with caution. Sticking to basic blackjack strategy and odds charts is generally one your safest bets when it comes to winning at real casino blackjack.
